Year of 2007 plan

July 4th, 2007

Work Hard & Play Hard. That is the plan.

summer: Graduation trip. Road Trip. Chicago, NYC, LA and home sweet home New Mexico. Mainly seeing friends that haven’t met for 4~5 years, doing blacksmithing, and forget about all the work in Scoville. Disconnect and reconnect. Rest, relax and enjoy.

fall: reform the equipment checkout system in the Media Lab. also helped Paul complete complete as many projects as possible.

main study: this definitely has the HIGHEST priority. will take more CAMS classes. Intro, film theory, documentaries, seriously anything. I just need to theorize myself, my knowledge, my passion, before i make my own film.

side study: prepare level 1 JLPT. aiming at level 1, should at least pass level 2. also should practice better mandarin.

future plan: apply to film school/grad school. need helps from Michael, Carol, John, and Paul. also apply to Cathy Pacific.

I am not going to spend much time on any easy project. there are much more to study.

Last but not least, hopefully if all things go well, I will be able to make a film about the NGO-Osmosis in Brazil. Finger crossed.

Facebook frenzy

July 2nd, 2007

Finally I realized the power of facebook. I was surprised and impressed that I just wrote to 28 friend friends (not facebook friends) in an hour. Since this is really my first time visiting the East Coast area, (sorry David, Virginia doesn’t count) there are tons of friends that i really miss and hopefully i will be able to meet them within next 3 weeks.

Facebook is not that bad after all. It really connects. At least to me it came out at the age when all my facebook friends are truly friends.

finally settled down…

June 27th, 2007

3:15am @Ryan’s house. after the ultra-busy production month of May, and the excitement month of June, finally i settled down in long island, new york, with Ryan.

today is really the first day that i am not doing anything, not going anywhere, not worrying about doing nothing and not going nowhere. today was simply relax. i can finally have a room that i can stay more than 3 nights. just a quick recap to remind myself where i slept this month:

June

1-3 my room, obviously, still in school

4-6 yusi’s room, had to move out before any other seniors did

7-8 didn’t sleep, working in scoville lab, got some sleep during commencement

9 Grand Marais MN, gorgeous place, family trip

10, Duluth MN, crash in Holiday Inn for half price since we only stay there for 3 hours before driving to the airport.

11-12 Petra’s house MN, back to Northfield, thanks to Petra’s hospitality

13-14 Archer House MN, had to try the famous historical Northfield hotel

15 Kevin’s room MN, crash in before heading to Iowa. thanks Kevin

16-17 Seth’s house IA, the major attraction and the highlight is Seth’s farm. thanks Seth

18-19 Chase’s house IA, went to living history farm and Iowa PBS. thanks Chase

20-21 Kevin’s room again MN, need a break. need to pack before leaving Carleton for the summer.

22-23 Dave’s room IL, a stop to see an old friend and get ready before the last drive

24- Ryan’s house NY,

here i am. finally don’t have to move for another 2 weeks.

i am relax now. finally have time time for digesting and reflecting, disconnecting and reconnecting.

ps. Did all the driving myself. at least 3500 miles this month. thanks niaw who gave me 41mpg at peak and save me tons of money. he worked hard.

My first surgery

June 15th, 2007

Yes my first surgery.
My first major surgery.

This is a serious one. What doctor said is a sebaceous cyst. I had one behind my ear for more than a year, one on my forehand which is about half of the size of a pingpong ball for more than 3 moths, and one on my cheek for 2 months. They really came out from nowhere although they are not the first cysts i have. just these are ridiculously big and one happens to be on my forehead. Doctor said it is a genetic disease which nothing can cure beside removing it. But he suggested me to see a dermatologist.

so now i have 2 noticeable scars on my face. they are not the prettiest things I want to get, but at least i can lie about that they are from my official yakuza training. sigh~ hope the stitches hold and the wound heal fast.

I got the job!

June 4th, 2007

I am proudly announce (finally) that Wain Yee is

the Educational Associate of Cinema and Media Studies

for the next academic year 2007 - 2008.

i understand the whole world is expecting me to take that position even before i apply. but it is still exciting to finally receive that confirmation from my boss, whom I have work for for the past 4 years. So yea~! very soon I won’t be a Carleton student but a staff! and Carleton is going to continue paying me to go to school + giving me millions of production equipment + giving me a studio! YEAH~~
(^o^)v This is simply my dream job.

Professional

May 27th, 2007

What is professional?

professional is 101% perfect. the challenge, though, is not reaching that 101, but instead knowing when to stop, when to be satisfied with 95 or even 90.
I could spend 10 mins or 5 hours edting a 5 mins piece. And only I will notice the marginal difference.
How far can I go when I push myself that far? I feel pain stretching now.

Last 2 days of production. Hanging.

things on my desks are …

May 25th, 2007

on my desk I have:

1 pair of very loud speaker,
2 computers,
3 mouses and
5 monitors.

I sold my fujitsu laptop. Finally my boss successfully converted me to a power Mac user.

Niaw, my new baby car

May 23rd, 2007

This is Niaw (pronounced as “neo”), my new filmmaking companion.

It is named by its Godmother Jipei, and the name means “the one”.

It is a 2002 Hyundai Accent 2-door Hatchback Manual Transmission. 37 per gallon and only 67000 miles!

I love it. I am a very happy person.

ps. Notice the liscence plate is “HKv” !!

Workaholic

May 22nd, 2007

What is workaholic?

Workaholic is being able to work productively for at least 10 hours a day.

Workaholic to me is sleeping only for 4 hours every night. Yet every morning the mind will wake up automatically (no joke, w/o alarm clock, even weekends) at 8am and yet being very excited to work. I felt the tiredness, but couldn’t go to bed.

Workaholic is when my mind is ignoring the need of my body, and controlling it to finish the work.

Despite all that, workaholic thinks that work is still a very pleasant task.
