Allergy strikes back. But passion will win this time.

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

So yes. The worst allergy is hitting hard on me again. But this time, not during the peak Hay fever season, not in the 60%-population-allergy-for-sure Japanland or in the lovely evergreen Minnesota spring time either.

-I am suffering from severe allergy in the driest New Mexico where I had lived healthily for 2 years of my life.

By severe I mean I cannot breathe, and the nose is completely stuffed by non-running-mucus and I can sneeze 7 times in 30 seconds (that feels good btw).

I first had severe pollen allergy when I was in deep depression in Japan. (At least that’s the justifiable reason that I hate Japan. Literally the Japanese atmosphere made me very sick.) Second time was during the stressful senior spring term in Carleton. I would never imagine that it would hit me again in New Mexico, and the worst is:

I suspect I am now allergic to the dust in the blacksmith shop.

This is really a nightmare! But I am not going to let those invisible particles to ruin my productive life as a blacksmith! They may attack my sinuses, but not my passion to this hottest craft! I am going to fight. I have the baking soda-salt-alkaline solution and the Neti pod as my defensive weapon. And I believe my determined mind would defeat the infected body.

Breathe while I can. The allergy strikes back. But there’s always a new hope.

7-8 didn’t sleep, working in scoville lab, got some sleep during commencement

9 Grand Marais MN, gorgeous place, family trip

10, Duluth MN, crash in Holiday Inn for half price since we only stay there for 3 hours before driving to the airport.

11-12 Petra’s house MN, back to Northfield, thanks to Petra’s hospitality

13-14 Archer House MN, had to try the famous historical Northfield hotel

20-21 Kevin’s room again MN, need a break. need to pack before leaving Carleton for the summer.

22-23 Dave’s room IL, a stop to see an old friend and get ready before the last drive

24- Ryan’s house NY,

here i am. finally don’t have to move for another 2 weeks.

i am relax now. finally have time time for digesting and reflecting, disconnecting and reconnecting.

ps. Did all the driving myself. at least 3500 miles this month. thanks niaw who gave me 41mpg at peak and save me tons of money. he worked hard.

Filming and Editing

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

I love filming.
My friend Sean loves editing.

I enjoy the creation of the footage.
He enjoys the manipulation of the footage.

I enjoy the freedom the camera grants me, capturing the most interesting thing to me on site.
Sean likes the limitation, selecting the best footage within the tape, and condensed to an exciting form.

I like filming because it only takes definite time to film.
Sean enjoys putting unlimited effort to perfect his editing.

Conclusion? We are a good team.

ps. Kelly commented I dress like Hirai Ken today. That makes me happy.

MASKMAN PRODUCTIONS

Monday, May 7th, 2007

I proudly announce that we just formed my video production company today! 2 graduating Carleton College senior Chris Courneen and Wain Yee finally decided to devote ourselves of this meida world… With our hard work and talent, we will be the cameraman, editor and producers of any sort of productions. We work efficiently with MultiCam, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, DVDStudioPro, Motion, LiveType, SoundTrack, and WebDesign. We are working on our logo and website http://MaskManProductions.com…
(Alright enough for the advertising… hehe… I m too excited… more will be coming next)

The first challenge we have is that we have a big postproduction that has to be finished in 2 weeks. Time is tight, and stress is high. I am learning how to maintain a balance between more efforts or less perfections, to best estimate how much time I should put into certain part. The technical challenges are easy (which I will write later).

The difficulty is not letting my passion drown myself.
Keeping myself on track.

Just a preview list of the projects of MASKMAN PRODUCTIONS in the next three months:

-Inside CoCo’s World DVD (2-disc special edition)
-The Colored Museum DVD
-Women in Black DVD
-Carleton College International Festival 2007 DVD
